Experienced, Respectful, Responsible Leadership
I have no axe to grind nor single issue driving me,
just the desire to serve the town I love!
I'm running for Mayor, because I love this town!
I've been an active Warrenville resident all my life. My parents were involved in the incorporation movement in the 1960s to prevent Warrenville from being swallowed up by our neighboring cities, thus preserving our unique community character. My father, Cliff, was Warrenville's Fire Chief for decades, as well as a local small business owner. Johnson School in Summerlakes is named in his honor. Similarly, my mother, Fay, was very active as a local realtor and as a member of the VFW and Fire Department Auxiliaries.
Growing up, I saw many examples of sincere, respectful public service. These examples inspired me to a lifetime of serving my community. I was elected as one of the first Warrenville Park District Commissioners, helping lead the efforts to establish the parks, ball fields, and programs we all enjoy today.
I was elected and reelected four times to serve on the District 200 School Board and served ten years as Board President. During that time, I led efforts to move Hubble Middle School from downtown Wheaton to Warrenville. Also during my tenure, we established a balanced school district budget policy and that practice continues to this day.
I am ready to use my experience, skills, and love of Warrenville to serve as our next Mayor!
As Mayor, I promise to provide the respectful, passionate, quality leadership Warrenville deserves.
I believe that we show respect for others by behaving responsibly and by actively listening to one another's opinions and unique perspectives. I will work closely with the Council and staff to ensure everyone is heard and respected.
As School Board President, I managed many challenging and sometimes contentious situations where I always tried to be kind, respectful, and responsive.
Warrenville is a safe place to live, work, and play; I will work to keep it that way. Our police department is highly skilled and visible in the community, engaging in the award winning annual National Night Out and other neighborhood outreach efforts. I applaud and support our Citizens Police Academy as an activity that connects law enforcement with the community. As a retired Risk Management professional, I will work with our local agencies to ensure our emergency plans are well coordinated.
Good roads, sidewalks, water and sewer services are essential to a strong, safe community. Our public works team is professional and forward thinking. I'll support them in their efforts and help ensure we stay on top of capital spending so that our streets, roads, and sewers are in top condition.
I believe conservation and beautification efforts make for a better community now and in the future. I support the work of the Environmental Advisory Commission, Warrenville In Bloom, and in retaining our Tree City Status.
Economic development is one area in which I plan to spend a lot of time. I'll work closely with our city staff to use every lever possible to attract desirable commercial development to our City. Seeing the recently approved development plan, Warrenville By Design, come to life is high on my priority list. At the same time, I believe that it is important to respect the businesses which have already committed themselves to Warrenville. We need to do what we can to make sure they thrive and succeed. I hope to periodically convene local realtors and developers to discuss ways to meaningfully fill in the empty storefronts. In addition, the current Economic Development Plan (crafted in 2015) needs to be updated. I'll see to it that the update reflects our values and unique community character.
I'm a big believer in a balanced budget. Warrenville's finances have always been carefully managed; I'll keep that up. I supported and endorsed balanced budgets within District 200 when I was School Board President and will continue that practice as Mayor. I will always challenge city staff and Council members to look for efficiencies and to budget as conservatively, yet effectively, as possible.
We're fortunate to have great partner agencies in the Park, Library, Fire Protection, School, and Forest Preserve Districts. I'll work closely with them to maintain the highest quality of services and resident satisfaction. Having a deep understanding of our various taxing bodies, as well as homeowners associations, non-profits, and other nearby entities, gives me a unique perspective on how to make sure we are all pulling in the same direction.
